cue Christmas music...

I have to admit, I take my cue from retail and start seriously thinking about Christmas shortly after Halloween. Maybe not the next day after Halloween, but certainly in that first week of November. And I always feel panicked at that point too. As it's now mid-month and I'm really just starting to get the ball rolling, I'm in the uncomfortable position of being really behind this year. I have, however, managed to commission my favourite local artist, significantly reducing what's on my proverbial plate.
Christmas prep falls into three main categories: baking, decorating, and gifting. I'm getting a kick start to my preparations by taking an online course -- actually more like a daily dose of inspiration with no actual assignments, no grades, no pressure -- and so my first effort this year falls into the "decorating" category:

The first candle holder is a plea, "Dear Santa, I can explain...", the second is just snowflakes, and third is more resigned, "Be naughty, save Santa the trip". Which pretty much describes my emotional progression from here to Christmas -- hopeful at first that all will get done and be the best ever, then a brief period of blissful busy-ness, and finally defeat, that what I've accomplished will have to suffice for this year... But it wouldn't be Christmas any other way.

You do holidays better than anyone else I know DoOver. You think you are behind? I'm not sure you even know the meaning of the word!! The very fact that you've already done a decorating project (which, as usual, is stunningly beautiful and creative) is testament to the fact that you ARE on top of things. I can't even stay on top of birthdays, let alone the important festivals of our year. The best thing I have going for me right now is that I hold my family and friends in my heart every day. Don't be too hard on yourself - what you accomplish anytime, regardless of how much or how little it is, is MORE than enough.

Thank you for inspiring me constantly DoOver!! :)
