late bloomer

The massive rhododendron in our front yard finished blooming a few weeks back. I cleaned it up, removing all the spent blooms, and then a couple of days ago, this happened:

Can you see it? I think this little guy slept through his alarm... he missed the big show. But never mind, he'll just flourish out there all on his own .

I think it's a lovely little lesson in choosing to shine even when you seem to be out of sync with the rest of the world!
