old and new

I am racing to finish my current project in time for the upcoming Modern Quilt Guild meeting. It's a self-inflicted race, but deadlines are good. And as I'm hand quilting this is more like a slow-bicycle race, but here's a peek at my progress...

At the same time, I'm thinking about the next thing... which might involve what to do with this little beauty I've been given by my mother-in-law:

She has beautiful ice-cream colours and probably lots of stories to tell, but she's quite thread-worn and in need of more than just a repair job.

So, the question is, what shall I do with her? Could I incorporate her into something more modern while respecting where she came from?
Ideas anyone?

You could take out the good bits, which in the photo look like the squares in the middle, and make a new quilt from them. Or, what about a flowing skirt for Artist Daughter?! I can see the "rays" of the suns pointing down and you could do an undulating/asymmetrical hem with it. She looks gorgeous in skirts. Well, actually she looks gorgeous in anything.

    1. Yes she does, I agree.
I'm thinking of reworking the blocks in a new configuration, but I need to finish the other one first!
