"slow" food?

This is not my idea, I did not make this up. But, it's such a good do-over, such a great re-think of something standard, that I have to include it in this little collection of mine.

Take a Medjool date (they're in the produce section of the grocery store and softer than the baking dates). Cut it almost through and remove the pit. I wish I had a clever use for this pit, but I don't. Chuck it in the green bin.
Add a couple of pecans.
Throw some chocolate chips on top -- vegan ones if you like, but good old Chipits will do... and if you use no-name brand, I'm not gonna tell.
Pop the whole mess in your mouth.

Taste that? It's a TURTLE! A VEGAN (or almost... depending on your choice of chocolate) TURTLE!
Admittedly, it's not a nice little package, it doesn't look like a real turtle, and you couldn't eat it in a white dress, singing, while slinking in front of a troupe of dancing turtles... but, it works for me!

Reality check... this little treat has twice the sugar (though mostly unrefined), half the fat (but way more fiber) and about the same amount of calories as a real turtle, well not a real turtle, but you know what I mean.
So just have one, k?

This is from the brilliant minds behind the "fresh restaurants" , which sadly, are only in Toronto, but their book is in the "what's cooking" section of the side bar on the right! I recommend both the book and, if you're in TO, the place!

I remember that commercial and remember how stupid I thought it was. Your turtle looks delicious! Why don't you and "Photographer/Baker/Genius" (or what ever you call him these days) Son start up a Fresh Restaurant?? I mean, you are brilliant minds too.

    1. I actually remembered the commercial with the woman draped over a grand piano, but I couldn't find that on youtube... dumb, yes, but memorable! And I think I'll leave the restaurateur business to someone with business brilliance. But I would be a happy regular there!
